| Fleas, Ticks, Mites, Lice, Scabies | A lemon rinse applied to your pet’s coat can be very helpful as a natural method of repelling fleas in cats and dogs. Prepare the rinse with about 10 lemon skins in a gallon of water. Bring the mixture to a boil, simmer until it has a mushy consistency, strain and cool before pouring it over your pet’s coat. Use Neem Shampoo when bathing your pet. Adding apple cider vinegar is an option. Neem oil may be used for treating insect bites and scabies. Neem oil is also a natural insect repellant. | Cuts and Scrapes |
Fresh aloe vera can be applied to minor cuts and scrapes in pets. Aloe versa has natural antiseptic properties and when applied regularly, keeps the affected area moist to faciliate healing. Chamomile can also be applied to a wound to prevent infection. Before applying any treatment, clip hair away from the site of injury and avoid covering it with a bandage. If your pet’s cut is deep or looks infected, contact us to schedule an appointment. Vitamin E capsule contents applied to wounds, abrasions, burns and inflammed eyelids are soothing and help to reduce pain. Vitamin C can also be effective for healing of skin disorders. |
| Skin Infections |
Tea Tree Oil is an essential oil with anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Neem Oil, diluted in water or in a carrier oil, offers anti-fungal, anti-bacterials and anti-inflammatory properties. All essential oils should be diluted in water or a carrier oil before applying to your pet. Herbal vinegars also have antifungal properties. Vinegars with oregano and garlic offer protection against fungus and are safe for dogs. Onion should avoided in dogs. Garlic and onion are toxic to cats and should be avoided in these animals. Neem oil may be used for skin infections, insect bites and scabies. Prevention is always best. Bacteria and fungi grow rapidly in moist and humid environments. Thoroughly drying your pet’s coat and skin after swimming, bathing or exposure to rainy weather will help to prevent bacterial and fungal infections. |
| Hepatitis and Liver Problems |
Milk Thistle and Turmeric are helpful for hepatitis and other disorders of the liver. |
| Hip Dysplasia | When given to puppies from large breeds, Vitamin C can help to prevent hip dysplacia. |
| Distemper and Parvo Virus |
A therapeutic dose of sodium ascorbate powder, slow-release tablets or an injection of Vitamic C in the muscle, will immediately stop symptoms of Distemper and Parvo Virus. If you believe your animal has distemper or parvo virus, contact Dr. Kordon immediately. |
| Flatulence in Dogs | Flatulence is often a sign of poor digestion and signals the need for nutritional enzymes in your pet’s diet. Adding caraway oil or apple cider vinegar to your dog’s food once daily or offering apple slices can be helpful. Avoid giving raw bones at the same time. |
